Aeroflot reduces fares for socially important flights within Russia

February 18, 2011, Moscow– Aeroflot starts a regular program for reduction of fares for socially important flights within Russia. A number of destinations are set in Russia for which quotas of discount tickets will be allocated. Those passengers who could not afford purchasing a full-price ticket can now make a required flight within the country.

The main goal of reducing the fares is to enhance the social component in the policy of the leading Russian carrier, improve transport communications with remote Russian regions, and make air travels more affordable and attractive for Russia’s residents. These measures became possible owing to an unmatched growth of Aeroflot’s production and financial indicators in the previous year.

The program especially focuses on the cities located in the Russian Far East (Vladivostok, Khabarovsk, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk). For this region, the program will remain in effect during almost the entire winter season. For example, before the discount rate was introduced, the minimum cost of the return ticket to/from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky was 15,000 rubles and now it is 10,000 rubles. Thus, flights to/from the Russian Far East can be made under discount rates around the year since, beginning the summer season, the government program of subsidies for uplifts of residents of this region comes in effect.

Reduced rates (within allocated quotas) are also effective for flights connecting Kaliningrad and Moscow. Prior to introduction of the special fare, the cost of the return ticket to/from Kaliningrad was 3,500 rubles and now it is only 2,500 rubles. During the winter season, the program will also cover some cities in the Ural region. Direct flights from Siberia to Southern regions of Russia are of great importance.

Aeroflot is extending and improving the practice of discount sales. Beginning 2010, special Web fares have been introduced that are only effective if the ticket is purchased on Aeroflot’s Web site or on Web sites of major agencies. Any customer having access to the Internet, who wishes to timely organize his/her trip, can now purchase tickets at a price that is significantly lower than at sales offices.
