Switzerland is known for its adorable little villages and luxurious hotels. There are world-class ski resorts and majestic castles. The cities are filled with high-end stores and some of the finest chocolates in the world, and celebrities can be seen in almost every café and on the slopes. Even if only to experience the country with the highest standard of living, a trip here is worth it.
Interestingly enough, the style of living depends on the weather. Switzerland has a moderate climate, and the breathtaking Alps cover 60% of its territory. The Alps contribute to a constant winter, which allows for a year-round ski season. The mountain ranges prevent cold air from travelling south and warm air from moving north. They act as a sort of gate for the country. This makes the climate very pleasant, with warm but not hot summers and gentle winters. However, the best time to visit is in the spring, when the whole countryside busts into bloom.
Sometimes you get the sense that the country exists just so you can spoil yourself and find pleasure while you shop. You can choose to invest in a world-renowned Swiss watch or many other famous products; for spas, ski resorts, shopping, and divine chocolate, Switzerland is one of a kind. Regardless of how you decide to treat yourself, you will be surrounded by picturesque views, from the snowy peaks of the Alps to mesmerising forests and lakes with medieval castles.
The easiest way to get to Switzerland is to fly to one of its major cities. Aeroflot operates two direct flights from Moscow: Moscow-Zurich and Moscow-Geneva. Each takes about 3 hours and 30 minutes. The first lands at Zurich’s Kloten Airport (9km from the city centre), and the second at Geneva Airport (also known as Cointrin Airport), which is 5 kilometres from the centre.
Please note that the best airfares usually sell out quickly, so we strongly recommend booking in advance.
