Aeroflot Supports Global Environmental Initiative Of IATA

JSC “Aeroflot - Russian Airlines” declares about its support of the global initiative of IATA in respect of reduction of harmful atmospheric emission. Within the frameworks of a special program Aeroflot has improved the system of ecological management and production environmental control. The system is aimed at supervision of norms of emission of contaminants to the environment and limits for waste placement as well as observance of requirements of environmental law.

The key element of the system is Work and environmental safety service arranging environmental activities and monitoring. Systematic production environmental control ensures policy of the company in respect of environmental protection, checks availability and implementation by subdivisions of respective plans and actions for efficient use and reproduction of natural resources.

A new Provision on organization of system of environmental management and implementation of production environmental control is developed in Aeroflot in the context of the global initiative of IATA according to the latest normative documents of the Ministry of Transport of Russia, Air code of the Russian Federation and the federal laws “On environmental protection”, “On atmospheric air protection”, “On wastes of production and consumption”, “On sanitary and epidemiologic welfare of population”.

According to Svyatoslav Isakov, Director of Work and environmental safety service, Aeroflot strictly observes requirements of environmental legislation and goes even further. “Volume of harmful atmospheric emissions of Aeroflot has been reduced in the recent years due to modernization and transition to modern machines. This is also contributed by the program of fuel saving within the frameworks of which specific consumption of jet fuel decreased by 3 gm/tkm and hourly consumption – by 46 tons per hour in 2006.
The global initiative of IATA in respect of reduction of harmful atmospheric emission stipulates decrease of fuel consumption in civil aviation by 25% by 2020, and achievement of zero level of CO2 emission by 2050. According to Giovanni Bizigniani, Head of IATA, this is a new priority of the industry.

JSC “Aeroflot – Russian Airlines” (AFLT) is a certain leader of civil aviation in Russia, actually a national carrier. Being the largest domestic airline company it transports over 7 mln. of people annually and together with its subsidiaries – about 9 mln., i.e. 23% of the total amount of Russian air passengers.  With a fleet of 90 air crafts it flies to 93 destinations in 47 countries (302 flights a day).
