13 February 2019, Moscow - The Head of Russia’s Federal tax service Mikhail Mishustin and Aeroflot CEO Vitaly Saveliev have presented a digital project entitled "Tax monitoring data showcase" to the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev. The event took place in the Russian Federal Tax Service's central offices.
In 2018, Aeroflot launched the digital platform "Data Mart" in order to partake in tax monitoring - a new form of control for major taxpayers. Russia's tax authority provided the airline with all the necessary recommendations over the course of the platform's development. Aeroflot has created a virtual "workplace" for interaction with tax authorities using digital technology. Consequently, FTS specialists can access detailed transcripts of all the Company's tax and accounting statements online. The system also enables the monitoring of tax return preparation, results of control procedures and provides information about any budget accruals.
The project "Tax Monitoring Data Mart" allowed the Company to optimise its labour costs, reducing its outgoings. In 2018, the number of requests for relevant documents from tax authorities decreased by 33%, and the number of paper documents intended for the Federal Tax Service decreased fourfold. The Company managed to reduce the allocated preparation time for annual tax reports by two months.
Participation in tax monitoring confirms that Aeroflot is a responsible taxpayer and strives to be as transparent as possible.
The project "Tax Monitoring Data Mart" was well received by experts and won the Company several prestigious awards. In autumn of 2018, Aeroflot won a joint PwC and RUIE award for Tax Project of the Year. At the beginning of 2019, the "Data Mart" won a Global CIO award in the category "IT for financial services".
The Company intends to further develop the project “Tax Monitoring Data Mart” in close cooperation with the Federal Tax Service of Russia. In the next two years, the carrier plans to integrate the platform with the taxpayer's personal account and production IT systems, and then use artificial intelligence to build predictive models of tax liabilities.
Aeroflot was able to quickly implement the “Data Mart” project thanks to the high degree of digitalisation within the Company. The Russian carrier has been ranked fourth in the world for the second year running in terms of digitalisation in the Bain & Company rating.
