Aeroflot wins two Innovation Time awards

10 December 2018, Moscow. - Aeroflot has taken two prizes at the annual Innovation Time awards.

The Russian flag carrier scooped the "Transport and Engineering" category for the rollout of its “Digital Aeroflot” transformation plan, and also won the "Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering" category for its international prize-winning “Aeroflot. Sulimov Dogs” project.

Celebrating achievements in the field of innovation, the Innovation Time award ceremony was held on 7 December at the Marriott Krasnaya Polyana Hotel in Sochi. Aeroflot is the first nominee to take two categories at the prestigious awards. The jury noted Aeroflot’s consistent and highly effective application of advanced technologies in the field of civil aviation.

Innovation and tech have significantly increased Aeroflot’s operational efficiency and standards of customer service. Aeroflot ranked as the fourth most digital airline worldwide for the second year in a row, and remains Russia’s largest online retailer.

Aeroflot was the first airline in Russia to launch on-board wifi, and prioritises the use of a mobile app for staff and customers. Aeroflot also deploys a custom-made information and analytical system for management (“Manager’s Monitor”) and is actively developing Big Data projects. The Group’s development strategy through 2023 includes increasing levels of digitalisation as a key objective.

The Russian flag carrier’s Sulimov dogs are a unique hybrid breed with an enhanced sense of smell, and are used to search for explosive devices with a high degree of accuracy. 24-hour monitoring using the dogs increases security for passengers, aircraft and airport infrastructure.

The Innovation Time awards were inaugurated by the Social Projects and Programs foundation. The panel of judges consists of scientists and innovation experts, social activists, and representatives of business and government.  The winners are flagships of the Russian economy who understand the importance of innovation and define innovation as a priority strategy and business model.
