Aeroflot celebrates 20 years of flying to Nizhny Novgorod

Moscow, 29 March 2018. - Aeroflot is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the resumption of regular flights between Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod.

The route is of historical significance for Aeroflot, as it was the inaugural flight of the Russian flag carrier’s predecessor, Dobrolet, on 15 July 1923.

On 29 March 1998, after a prolonged suspension of flights as a result of the collapse of the USSR, Aeroflot resumed regular flights between Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod using a Tu-134. Today, with much higher demand, the airline operates six daily flights using modern and comfortable Airbus A320, Boeing 737 and Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft. Passenger traffic numbers are continuing to increase: in 2017 alone, the airline carried more than 387,000 passengers – 13.2% more than in 2016.

Since the start of the summer season on 25 March, Aeroflot has increased the number of daily flights between Moscow and Nizhny from five to six. In preparation for increased passenger traffic in summer, flights will operate using higher-capacity aircraft from the A320 and B737 families.

Nizhny Novgorod is one of the oldest and most picturesque cities in Russia. Located at the confluence of the Oka and Volga rivers, Nizhny is remarkable for its abundance of architectural and historical sights. It is the perfect city for family walks in the fresh air.

Developing its domestic route network is a priority for Aeroflot, which offers convenient flights for passengers travelling not only to Moscow, but also to other cities across Russia and internationally.
