Aeroflot Fleet Receives New А321


December 03 2009, Moscow. – JSC Aeroflot Russian Airlines has received the 15th А321 by Airbus. By the end of 2009, the company plans receiving one more aircraft of this model. Currently, the company’s air fleet operates 61 aircraft from the A319/320/321 family.

The Airplane is called after Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, a Soviet scientist, and the founder of the modern astronautics.

The aircraft was purchased under a financial lease contract signed in December 2008 between Aeroflot JSC and Airbus Corporation.
All А320 family aircraft are delivered to Aeroflot directly ex-factory. The cabins have two-class layout and can accommodate 116 (А319), 140 (А320) and 170 (А321) passengers. Aeroflot operates А320 family aircraft to a network of European and Russian domestic routes.

The company is among the world’s leaders in terms of operational reliability and actual hours flown per aircraft.

AEROFLOT is based in Moscow, in the Sheremetyevo International Airport. As Russia’s largest carrier, the company flew 9.3 million passengers in 2008, together with its subsidiaries, 11.6 million. Aeroflot operates its own flights to 97 destinations in 46 countries. It accounts for over 42% of Russia’s scheduled international traffic. The company strives to enhance its share of domestic traffic, which now is 13.7% (with its subsidiaries, around 20%).
Aeroflot is a member of SkyTeam, a global airline alliance. Aeroflot provides its customers with an access to a route network of 856 destinations in 169 countries (more info is available on  www.skyteam.com). Aeroflot operates code-sharing agreements with 29 carriers in and outside Russia.
Aeroflot operates one of Europe’s youngest air fleets that consists of 111 aircrafts, about two thirds are state-of-the-art airliners. The air fleet is regularly replenished. The company plans to receive the new generation Russian airplanes Sukhoi SuperJet-100.
Aeroflot complies with the highest international safety standards. Following the results of the International Air Transport Association’s Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), the company was the first Russian carrier to be included in the IOSA Registry. In 2009, Aeroflot has confirmed the certificate for the third time, and successfully passed the ISAGO (IATA Safety Audit for Ground Operations) procedure. In March 2008, the company’s Quality Management System was certified as complying with ISO 9001:2000.
