March 11, 2011, Moscow. - Aeroflot has been officially nominated for the prestigious annual award “World Travel Awards – 2011”. This year, the international award often referred to as the 'tourist industry equivalent of Oscar' will be awarded for the 18th time.
By now, nominees of the year 2011 have been selected in different regions worldwide. JSC ‘Aeroflot’ will contest for the World Travel Awards in two categories: Best European Airline and European Airline with the Best Business Class. Eleven nominees will contest in the first category and nine in the second. The list of contestants includes major European carriers, holders of world brands.
World Travel Awards serves to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the global travel and tourism industry. The winners will be selected stepwise: fist they are selected separately for each continent and afterwards the world’s best companies will be chosen from among the nominees.
This year, over 5,000 companies from 160 countries worldwide, primarily leading tourist operators, airlines, and high-class hotels, will contend in more than 900 categories. The winners will be determined on the basis of online voting in which both tourist industry professionals and consumers are invited to take part.

Aeroflot, a leader of Russia’s air fleet, is a member of SkyTeam, the global airline alliance. Aeroflot’s overall flight network comprises 898 locations in 169 countries. In 2010, 11.3 mln passengers used Aeroflot’s services and about 14.07 mln used the services offered by the Aeroflot group.

Aeroflot belongs to 25 leading airlines of the world according to Air Transport World journal, based on the results of its financial and economic activities in 2009 (“operating profit” and “profit margin” categories).
Aeroflot was the first Russian carrier to be included in the IOSA operator registry and it continues to confirm the certificate in a regular way. The airline has successfully passed the Safety audit for ground operations (ISAGO). Aeroflot is a holder of the unified certificate of compliance with the requirements of ISO 9001:2008.
