Alliance is an agreement between airlines on cooperation in business and production issues based on close contacts. SkyTeam comprises 19 member carriers: Аeroflot, Aerolineas-Argentinas, Aeromexico, Air Europa, Air France, Alitalia, China Airlines, China Eastern, Czech Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Garuda Indonesia, Kenya Airways, KLM Korean Air, Middle East Airlines, Saudia, Compagnia aerea TAROM, Vietnam Airlines, XIAMEN AIR.
European, American, and Asian partners jointly operate flights on the basis of «code sharing» agreements. They aim at strengthening their positions on the world market and, in case of economic meltdown, maintaining their presence for the destinations served by the alliance. In an unfavorable situation, the alliance allows the impact of external factors to be mitigated.
SkyTeam’s strength is based on a vast worldwide network of routes supported by the alliance member’s hubs, including Aeroflot’s in Moscow (Sheremetyevo), Air France и KLM’s hub in Paris (Charles de Gaulle) and Schiphol in Amsterdam, Delta’s hub in Atlanta (the world’s largest), Korean Air’s in Seoul (the Incheon airport equipped with state-of-the-art facilities), and Latin America’s largest airport in Mexico City which is Aeromexico’s hub.
