Aeroflot Improves Detection Of Dangerous Articles

Aeroflot has obtained a certificate for use of a device preventing bringing of explosives (EX), explosive objects (EO), arms and munitions to aircrafts. The device allows air sampling and keeps odors for a long time. After the sampling the material of a special filter is given to a tracker dog (bio-detector) reacting to presence of smells of EX and EO. The use of an animal in a favorable environment excluding diverting factors – temperature, side noises, smells, allows enhancing productivity and efficiency of dogs operation. Another advantages include reduction of examination time, possibility of attraction non-dog specialists for air sampling, sufficient increase of reliability of EX or EO detection due to use of three animals for each sampling.

The device became a part of the System of remote air analysis (SRAA) to ensure flight safety. The SRAA system includes a mobile canine complex based on the “Gazel’” van, tracker dogs – bio-detectors transported in a special cage-shed, device accumulating gas components of explosives, equipment and odor analysis laboratory. The crew embraces two dog specialists and a driver.

Hybrids of laika and jackal are used as bio-detectors for their unique olfactory system superior in terms of sensitivity to other tracker dogs and gas analyzers.

The SRAA method is unique and has no analogues. Aeroflot developed and tested it within three years. The method is certified for application by the Russian centre of air security objects certification.

OJSC «Aeroflot” is going to exhibit its achievements in terms of bio-detectors application for air security at ХII International forum “Security and Safety Technologies” to be held on February 6-9 in the IEC “Krokus Expo”. Additional information on application of the SRAA system will be available from experts at the Aeroflot stand.
