Greetings from Vitaly Saveliev, General Director of PJSC "Aeroflot – Russian Airlines"

General Director of PJSC Aeroflot Russian Airlines Vitaly Saveliev

Dear Passenger,

Welcome aboard this Aeroflot aircraft.

Every year on the third Sunday of August, pilots, navigators, flight attendants, ground crew, and other aviation professionals celebrate Russian Air Fleet Day. This holiday has special significance for Aeroflot, as Russia’s leading commercial aviation operator.

As the holiday approaches, Aeroflot’s leading position in the global industry has been confirmed. In a landmark achievement for our airline, we took home three awards at the European ceremony of the prestigious World Travel Awards.

Known unofficially as the “Oscars of the tourism world”, these awards are made based on online voting by hundreds of thousands of professionals and millions of travellers. For the second year in a row, Aeroflot has been recognised as one of Europe’s leading airlines, taking the awards for Europe’s Leading Airline Brand and Europe’s Leading Airline — Business Class.

This year, we were also named Europe’s Leading Airline to Asia. This is fitting recognition given our success in such a competitive market. The development of transit traffic between Europe and Asia is one of our most important strategic tasks and key drivers of growth.

In addition, Aeroflot has won Passenger Choice awards from APEX, the American aviation association, for Best Global Airline in Europe as well as Best Seat Comfort in Europe. This reflects the opinion of the strictest jury, namely travellers from all over the world. In their online reviews, passengers evaluated carriers on a variety of criteria: seat comfort, cabin crew service, on-board food and beverage quality, entertainment system, and Wi-Fi access.

We have already witness Russia host the greatest event on Earth, the FIFIA World Cup. We watched the best of the best with baited breath and cheered with all our hearts. The moment France lifted the trophy at a packed Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow the pundits started drawing conclusions, the fans rewatched the best goals, and the players either held their heads up high or retreated to the safety of their luxury homes with tails between legs. Faithful supporters travelled across Russia to the 11 host cities and further afield, and we hope people from all over the world will now be even more enthusiastic about exploring our great country with the help of Aeroflot. Included in this month’s magazine are photos of the fearless fishermen who ply their trade off the coast of Nakhodka, the symbolism of Boretsky painting from the shores of the Northern Dvina, the country’s best golf resorts, the magic of Dagestan, and the top five Russian soups.

In the August issue of Aeroflot magazine we will tell our readers about the most interesting sporting and cultural events of the upcoming month, as well as new books and films. Ballerina Ekaterina Kondaurova reveals the advantage of dancing behind the wall, musician and entrepreneur Georgy Vasiliev proposes a foolproof strategy to spread good vibes, and art manager Karina Abramyan explains why her job is similar to what an emergency physician does.

Our Travel section will tell you where to find the best beaches on the island of Krk, Croatia, the likelihood of encountering a ghost in Prague, whether you should expect to grab some amber for your home treasury in Palanga, Lithuania, what you are supposed to prepare for when traveling to Naples, and if fugu, as cooked in the restaurants of Tokyo, is good enough to risk your life for. Those dreaming about Spain will find out that Catalonia has quite a lot of crown jewels which are worth abandoning Barcelona for a few days. Finally, we have a special gift to our readers from residents of Paris who will share their favorite locations and precious life hacks.

Where to go in Moscow to taste “Orange Tights”, compare five varieties of Spritz, and pick a bottle in an enoteca containing 700 wines? This time our review will cover the most prominent wine bars of the Russian capital.

The Reading section will entertain connoisseurs of belles-lettres with an excerpt from a new book by Alexander Genis. His collection of essays “Guest” is dedicated to travels, and experiences these travels brought to the author.

Aeroflot Premium cover

The new issue of Aeroflot Premium is designed in the style of plein air painting, otherwise known as painting outdoors. We invite you to walk through avenues and squares, along embankments and canals, around the countryside, to city parks with their cast-iron benches, railings, fountains, pavilions, and rotundas, through museums which are open even at midnight, and to the best European restaurants, where the signature dishes resemble the beds of an old-fashioned herb garden.

As always, we present you with a selection of the most exciting and hotly anticipated events of the month, hotel news, restaurant premieres, the latest car reviews, cutting-edge gadgets, important books, and the best jewellery and fashion brands. Special features in the August issue include: culture in anticipation of a renaissance, a round-up of the resorts we’ll be wanting to visit in the next few years, and an amazing journey through the Basque Country.

Aeroflot Style

Aeroflot Style cover

Summer is moving inexorably to a close — but in the month that’s left there’s still time to do so much!

In August Aeroflot STYLE continues its “fashion race”. The routes for this month are: Belgium (where Baroque and contemporary art come face to face), Greece (where the sea is as beautiful as ever), and Turkey (where children are always at home). Incidentally, on the subject of children: this issue’s special section looks at trends in children’s fashion for the new season, advises on what special equipment to choose for school, and offers help in finding a hotel where your little ones will never be bored.

Our Fashion section focuses on the main trend for the coming season — checker patterns. Designers suggest we start wearing them in a new way. Meanwhile, lavishly coloured dresses and pieces made from transparent plastic continue to be in favour. To mark the 20th anniversary of Sex and the City, we give ourselves up to nostalgia and remember each of our favourite female characters.

In our Jewellery section don’t miss new pieces from Cartier’s Cactus collection, fantasies based on old fairytales, and watches with painted faces.

In our Beauty section we talk about summer detoxes, pack make up for the road, test products containing seaweed, and see what effects crystals have on us.

This issue’s principal personalities are actresses Lily James and Amandla Stenberg, industrial designers Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin, architect Jacob van Rijs, and entrepreneur Aleksandr Botov.
