Terminal D (Sheremetyevo) Announced Non-smoking Area
December 02, 2009. The new Sheremetyevo Terminal D, currently under test operation, will become Russia’s first area completely free from smoking. At the same time, interests of both smokers and non-smokers will be respected.
Following the world’s best practices, Terminal D has been announced a smoking-free zone. The measure is taken out of concern about passengers’ health and comfort. According to the latest research data, passive smoking, i.e. inhaling of cigarette smoke is even more harmful than active smoking.
At the same time, the needs of smokers will also be addressed – special smoking rooms will be opened for them in all the terminal’s areas.
The announcing of Terminal D a smoking-free zone is a logical step within Aeroflot’s policy aimed at provision of a healthy and comfortable environment for its passengers. Aeroflot has been Russia’s first carrier to prohibit smoking on board an aircraft.
Terminal D is to become Aeroflot’s base. The new terminal will be home to almost all Aeroflot’s flights, both domestic and international, as well as the flights by SkyTeam members and partner carriers.
Terminal D will provide passengers with servicing level satisfying the highest international standards. The Terminal will be handling up to 12 million passengers a year, practically doubling the throughput capacity of Sheremetyevo.
Terminal D is the best airport terminal on the post-Soviet territory and in the Eastern Europe. The Terminal has already become a laureate of ‘ARX Awards’, an independent award in the sphere of the Russian architecture and development: the original architectural solution won in the nomination ‘Best Transport Infrastructure Object’.
JSC Terminal (www.svo3.ru) was established in November 2003 as a special purpose company, to which JSC Aeroflot transferred the rights and responsibilities related to the Project of the new Terminal D passenger complex construction at the Sheremetyevo airport. At the moment, JSC Terminal performs the full management of the passenger terminal operations and property.
The owners of JSC Terminal stock are JSC Aeroflot, JSC VTB Bank, and JSC Vneshekonombank.
The new terminal will fully correspond to the term ‘hub’ and enable both substantial improvement of service for passengers and carriers, and a higher throughput capacity of the Moscow airport hub in the situation of growing passenger traffic. The new passenger terminal will be the most modern and hi-tech facility of the Sheremetyevo airport. Terminal D will drive Sheremetyevo’s throughput capacity to up to 12 million passengers a year.
Terminal D, complying with the world’s most advanced standards, will consolidate Aeroflot’s regular flights and flights operated by SkyTeam members at Sheremetyevo. This in its turn, will significantly boost the demand from transfer passengers, as well as optimize the route network and service provision to passengers of Aeroflot, the alliance and its partners.
