In-Flight Magazin

Greetings from Vitaly Saveliev, General Director of PJSC "Aeroflot – Russian Airlines"

General Director of PJSC Aeroflot Russian Airlines Vitaly Saveliev

Dear Passenger,

Welcome aboard this Aeroflot aircraft!

Autumn has finally arrived, and beginning 29 October Aeroflot will operate its winter timetable. Let me tell you more about it to help you organise your future trips.

The winter timetable runs through 25 March 2018. This winter Aeroflot will fly to 138 destinations across Russia and 50 other countries, including 51 destinations in Russia, 15 in other CIS countries and 72 other international destinations.

We are planning to launch two daily flights from Moscow to Ulyanovsk. As Russia’s national carrier, Aeroflot is focused on developing its domestic route network. Compared to last winter season we will increase flight frequency to 13 destinations within Russia. The number of flights to Krasnoyarsk will double to 28 flights per week. The route to Sochi — Russia’s most popular year-round resort — will have 11 additional flights per week.

We will also increase flight frequency to Anapa, Astrakhan, Chelyabinsk, Kazan, Magnitogorsk, Mineralnye Vody, Orenburg, Perm, Rostov-on-Don, Stavropol, and Surgut.

Winter is tightening its grip in Russia but there is still time to explore some of the roads less travelled before they are blanketed in snow and ice, like Pskov. Aeroflot brings you the best places to visit in the ancient city, where Alexander Pushkin penned some of his most famous lines. We also tell the story of the Pavlovsky Posad shawl, named after another Russian settlement, so now is the time to snap one up to help you brave the sub-zero temperatures.

What’s more, inside this edition you will learn about the best places to eat out and stay in Moscow — with the 2018 World Cup less than a year away booking hotels well in advance is highly recommended. And we have selected a series of black and white photos from TASS news agency portraying the capital city in all its haunting glory for those who want to peer into the mysterious Russian soul. So put your firs on, buckle up, and enjoy the flight.

In the October issue of Aeroflot magazine we will tell our readers about the most interesting sporting and cultural events of the upcoming month, as well as new books and films. Conductor and violin player Dmitry Sitkovetsky will reveal why he loves studying musical scores, and not only them; stage designer Maria Tregubova will explain why she prefers emptiness to video projections; producer Igor Sandler will share the story of his personal battle against omnipresent fast food; while writer and musician Nina Dashevskaya will talk about what inspired great Vivaldi’s concertos.

Materials in the Travel section will help you discover the specialties of Belgium — one of the world leaders in the number of Micheline stars per-capita — and the thermal resorts of Catalonia. For those who are ready to go skiing we are reporting from cozy Austrian slopes, where vertical drops are measured in kilometers, number of pistes in hundreds, and pork ribs in buckets, and from pre-Olympic Games Korea, which boasts some impressive and poetically named routes.

Foodies are invited to pay attention to new Moscow landmarks: the capital’s market places are rapidly changing from banal merchant stalls into fashionable gastronomic spaces, where the most-wanted restaurateurs compete over who makes the most delicious, interesting, and cheap foods, and host parties and dinners.

In the Reading section we publish excerpts from a book by Evgeny Pochaev, who knows from experience how to hide food from bears and what it’s like to spend "11 Months on the Road, or How to Bike through Two Americas".

Aeroflot Premium

Aeroflot Premium cover

Transparent autumn air inspired the lyrical and thoughtful mood of Aeroflot Premium's October issue. We did our best to gather bright warm colors, best views, most memorable routes and make your flight even more meaningful and pleasant. As always, the readers are in for interesting and much-expected events of the month, hotel news, restaurant openings, new car reviews, trendy gadgets, worthy books and the best watch, jewelry and fashion brands.

The hero of the issue — director of the Centre for Documentary Cinema Sofya Kapkova — talks about her audience and genre development prospects.

Among the special pieces of the issue that support the theme of golden autumn are the best eco resorts in Russia in Best of the Best rubric, a week-end in German Freiburg, a journey to the shores and cliffs of Ireland, and cream soup as the main dish of the autumnal dinner table.

To all fans of slow reading and long flights, we dedicate these reading materials: the story of tumultuous friendship between Matisse and Picasso (an excerpt from the new book by Sebastian Smee “The Art of Rivalry”) and the biography of Russian scientist, thinker and enlightener Vladimir Ivanovich Vernadsky in “People of Russia” rubric.

Foreign readers of Aeroflot Premium are invited to explore the articles and columns in English.

Read our Fashion section to find out what coat will suit you and how to wear checks today. For those who are interested not just in beautiful pictures, but also in the fashion industry itself, there is a piece by our columnist Yana Melkumova on the new fashion identity and interviews with designer Matthew Williams, Russian fashion guru Evelina Khromchenko, and stylist Aleksandr Rogov. In this month’s Beauty section we test warming oils, moisturizing creams, and new scents. One of the hits of the season is perfumes with notes of rose.
