Greetings from Vitaly Saveliev, General Director of PJSC "Aeroflot – Russian Airlines"

Генеральный директор ПАО Аэрофлот Виталий Савельев

Dear Passenger,

Welcome aboard this Aeroflot aircraft.

In October, our company is celebrating a special milestone: exactly 30 years ago, Aeroflot joined the IATA (International Air Transport Association). This influential non-governmental body serves the interests of passengers from all countries, facilitating cooperation between the world’s airlines. In 1989, at the IATA’s 45th General Meeting in Warsaw, Aeroflot became the first Russian carrier to be awarded membership of the association. From that moment on, we have been acting as the main promoter of the IATA’s global initiatives on the Russian air transport market and participating in its most groundbreaking projects.

Today, Aeroflot is a modern, thriving company and one of the most influential actors of the international global aviation market. We have firmly established ourselves as one of the global industry leaders.

For the last three years, Aeroflot has retained its status as the strongest airline brand in the world according to Brand Finance, the leading independent brand evaluation consultancy. Aeroflot also maintains its high rank in terms of passengers carried: we are consistently ranked as one of the world’s top 20 airlines in this regard, which is confirmed by two authoritative publications, the Air Transport World of the U.S. and the Airline Business of the UK. Aeroflot regularly confirms its four-star rating as affirmed by the independent British agency Skytrax, the leading authority in airline service quality evaluation.

In the October issue of Aeroflot magazine we will tell our readers about the most interesting sporting and cultural events of the upcoming month, as well as new books and films.

The Bolshoi Ballet’s prima ballerina Evgenia Obraztsova reveals why she does not believe herself when she acts in a film; producer Igor Sandler explains the difference between "music for legs" and "music for brains"; and actor Aleksandr Kuznetsov reminisces about finding out he won an award at the Kinotavr Festival.

The Travel Section will help you plan a contemplative trip to Seoul in autumn, uncover the secret behind the popularity of France’s Courchevel ski resort, pick the best tapas in all of the unique Basque Country, learn how to tell apart the various contradas of Siena, find a wine fountain in Zurich, and discover which of the iconic Alpine ice caps are best prepared for the opening of the ski season.

Porcini eskimo ice cream, chicken liver cappuccino, "stone pirozhki" – Moscow’s restaurants can offer their customers even more flamboyant dishes than these.

While embracing the trend of simplicity and purity of taste, Russian chefs cannot help trying to impress their guests as best they can. Besides, the theatricality, be it smoke and fire tricks or serving dessert in a glass shaped as a woman’s head, helps to promote the restaurant on social networks.

The Reading Section features an excerpt of Andrei Bilzho’s "My Venice 2". An unorthodox guide to the City of Canals and Bridges, where the famous Russian caricaturist has been occasionally living for 15 years now, was written almost in its entirety at the tables of Venetian cafés: the gastronomical experience is just as vital as studying antique frescoes if you are trying to really understand what this city is about.

Aeroflot Style

Fashion, art, and design are today so closely intertwined that they cannot exist separately of one another – this is the theme for the October issue of Aeroflot STYLE.

As this autumn reaches its middle, it will be fashionable to wear broad-shouldered jackets (as in the 1980s), suits made from gold fabrics, boots with square toes, oversize coats, and total looks in beige. Accessories to look out for are micro bags and large men’s-style watches.

This issue’s special theme is Design. Our thematic section begins with furniture trends which have stood the test of time without losing their relevance. Parisian interior decorator Vincent Darré offers expert advice. A selection of the best designer apartment hotels will help predict your next dream trip.

Our Beauty section investigates how to love physical training and begin eating correctly. We also learn new words such as "prama", "sensoprop", "bodypump", and "critical alignment yoga".

The principal personalities for this issue are actresses Julianne Moore and Selena Gomez, designer Judith Milgrom, and musician Nina Kraviz.

Finally this month, we introduce our readers to some legendary hotels and propose journeys with a historical twist: in Monaco you can see Princess Grace’s favourite apartment, and Marrakech has provided inspiration for couturier Yves Saint Laurent.

The new autumn issue of Aeroflot magazine offers its readers a chance to view the surrounding country, with Best of Russia dedicated to selecting the most advantageous position to do this — for example, some of the most famous viewing platforms in Russia. No less spectacular views open from the high banks of the river Vologda, famous for its fishing and salt mining, where our photojournalist went to greet the golden autumn. And from there it is not far to the Arkhangelsk region, where since ancient times Kargopol clay toys have been produced.

In order to refresh the feelings and warm up a little, we suggest to set course to Krasnodar Territory, where the grapes are right now being harvested and people are thinking about the future of the wine industry in Russia. If you only plan a short business trip to one of the capitals, find time for a walk on Red Square in Moscow and Vasilevsky Island in St. Petersburg. And be sure to return to Russia!
