Greetings from Vitaly Saveliev, General Director of PJSC "Aeroflot – Russian Airlines"

Генеральный директор ПАО Аэрофлот Виталий Савельев

Dear Passenger,

Welcome aboard this Aeroflot aircraft.

In August, we celebrate Russian Air Fleet Day – the holiday dedicated to pilots, flight attendants, ground crew, and other professionals working in Russia’s civil aviation.

This holiday holds a very special meaning to Aeroflot. Since its foundation on 17 March, 1923, our company has been a pacemaker for the development of Russia’s air transportation system and has been representing the country on the world stage with flying colours. According to the Brand Finance independent consultancy, Aeroflot is now the strongest airline brand in the world. We have been holding this title for three years in a row. Last month, Aeroflot became a Global Partner of the International Basketball Federation and the Official Airline of the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup. This will enable us to further reinforce our position in the strategic market of China and enhance brand awareness.

Millions of travellers all over the world choose Aeroflot. Their trust is our key reference point and our main incentive to advance further. Our sustained progress allows us to keep leading positions in the global industry. This summer, Aeroflot has once again been named the Best Airline in Eastern Europe at the Skytrax World Airline Awards, held annually and based on passenger satisfaction surveys. Our company confirmed its title of the best airline in the region for the eighth time in its history and for the seventh year running. The World Airline Awards is considered the world’s highest civil aviation award and is known as the Oscars of the air travel industry.

In the August issue of Aeroflot magazine we will tell our readers about the most interesting sporting and cultural events of the upcoming month, as well as new books and films.

Choreographer and stage director Alla Sigalova reveals her difficult relationship with her own dreams, as well as the faults for which she was expelled from the Vaganova Russian Ballet Academy; conductor Vladimir Spivakov tells why talent doesn't choose where to live; and figure skater Tatiana Navka explains the reason for taking 300 pairs of skates and a ‘talking head’ to a hot Southern country.

The Travel Section will help you find the one cableway that offers the best view on Rhine Valley, get to an island in Finland where you can give a hug to a Moomin, avoid blunders when ordering pasta in Bologna, understand why the Danish are often called ‘the new Italians’, and come up with many new reasons to visit Cognac, apart from the obvious one. For those who prefer to spend their summer vacation in Russia, we have some very detailed tour suggestions for the Vologda Region (featuring a submarine and a hot spring on top of the usual butter, window dressings and churches) and the environs of Sochi with fishing sites, horse rides, and the best churchkhela on the whole Black Sea coast.

Crab meat or beeswax ice cream, Pu-erh- and spices-based sorbets, dishes cooked with liquid nitrogen and an anti-griddle: striving to invent the most unusual cold dessert, chefs have long gone beyond pedestrian dessert menus. Our review reveals which Moscow eateries serve ice cream as a soup, or even a hot appetizer.

The Reading Section features an excerpt from “The Director Said It’s Cold Here, So Do Dress Warmly” by Alesya Kazantseva. Thousands of Livejournal and Facebook users have already become big fans of Alesya’s vignettes about a provincial girl who had come to Moscow to stay for a week and had stopped over at a film studio for five minutes, only to remain there forever.

The last month of the summer is always the most dynamic – there’s so much that needs to be done before the arrival of autumn!  In this August issue of Aeroflot STYLE we continue our stylish dash towards the finishing line.

This month’s destinations are Tallinn in Estonia (the main contender for the title of ‘Europe’s Silicon Valley’), the island of Mauritius (where there’s all the exoticism you could ever wish for), Tuscany in Italy (with its breathtaking beauty), and Sochi (ideal for children).

Incidentally, on the subject of children, our special section includes a survey of trends in children’s fashion for the new season and advice on how to dress for school, furnish a children’s room, and choose a hotel where there’s plenty to keep your ‘little ones’ entertained.

This month’s Fashion section focuses on the main trend of the coming season – the 70s. It’s an opportunity to learn how to wear flares, high suede boots, and floating dresses with ‘animal’ prints.

‘Jewellery’ looks at new models with ‘predatory’ faces (depicting leopards, panthers, and Bengal tigers). from top watchmakers. Grasshopper rings and dragonfly brooches complete this jeweller’s ‘zoo’.

Our Beauty section looks at show to choose the right eye cream and create a wet look for your hair. Also, we test new scents and reflect on how the age of speed has impacted the beauty industry.

Our principal personalities for this issue are actress Elizabeth Moss, star chef Joan Roca, designer-couturier Antonio Marras, and parfumier Jan Vilhelm Ahlgren.
