AEROFLOT’S PERFORMANCE IN FEBRUARY AND TWO MONTHS OF 2009
March 18 2009, Moscow. – JSC Aeroflot Russian Airlines has revised its results for February and the two months of 2009.
In February 2009, the company carried 535,400 passengers (including 4300 by charter), and performed 1,627 million passenger kilometers.
Owing to the contraction of demand for air transport services followed by the prompt reduction of flight frequency, Aeroflot’s passenger traffic reduced by 15.8% (100,500 passengers) compared to 2008. The reduction took place mainly on domestic lines. The lower passenger traffic was offset by a greater number of charted flights and higher commercial load on several European destinations. Passenger load factor in February was 60.6%, which is 4.5% lower than in the last year.
In the two months of 2009, the drop in passenger traffic made up 7.7%: the company carried 1,172 thousand passengers and performed 3,598 million passenger kilometers. Passenger load factor amounted to 61.6%.
The declining jet fuel prices together with Aeroflot’s anti-crisis strategy including cost cutting, prompt modification of schedule and lower hours flown by the air fleet enabled the company to improve financial efficiency of fleet operation as compared to 2008.
AEROFLOT is headquartered in Moscow, in the Sheremetyevo International Airport. As Russia’s largest carrier, the company flies around 10 million passengers annually, together with its subsidiaries, around 12 million passengers.
