Aeroflot-Russian Airlines Director General Valery Okulov was elected a member of the IATA Board of Governors

Aeroflot-Russian Airlines Director General Valery Okulov was elected a member of the IATA Board of Governors for the third time within the period of 2005 – 2006.

Board of Governors elections were held at the Annual General Conference of International Air Transport Association (IATA) on May 29-31, 2005, in Tokyo.

The IATA Board of Governors is a permanently functioning body submitted to the Annual General Conference. Members of the Board including 31 persons are elected from top managers of the largest airline companies - members of the association. The Board responsibilities include representing Association, cooperating with IATA Director General, providing political tasks and managing permanent committees and additional bodies of the Association as well as arranging conferences. Some members of the Board can consult on issues concerning specific aspects; they act in the interests of the Association.

IATA was established in 1945. Its headquarters is in Montreal. Uniting the leading airline companies of the world the Association acts as a coordinator and represents interests of the airline industry in such spheres as providing flight safety, making flights, fare policy, maintenance, air safety, it develops and issues international standards, it is engaged in training and consulting, etc.

Aeroflot is an effective member of IATA since 1989, it is represented in the Board of Governors and in eight main committees of the Association.
