Aeroflot is official carrier of Russia's Olympic Team

Today the Managing Director of OJSC “Aeroflot” Valeriy Okulov, President of the Russian Olympic Committee Leonid Tyagachev and the head of the Russian Federal Agency for Physical Culture and Sport, Vyacheslav Fetisov, signed trilateral agreement on the air carriage of the Russian sportsmen, official delegation and the guests of the Winter Olympics XX , which is to take place from February 10 to 26 in the Italian city of Turin.

Special Aeroflot charter flights will carry the Russian team, members of the official delegations, guests and tourists to Turin as well as deliver bulky luggage. The Boeing 767 airplanes will be used for this purpose.

The first planes, carrying sportsmen will depart to Turin on the eve of the Olympic Games Opening, and the last Olympic flights will be conducted in the end of February 2006.

Russian fans can also use Aeroflot charter flights Moscow- Turin-Moscow.

The Russian Olympic Committee traditionally, since 1994, grants Aeroflot, as the most reliable and safe company, an honor to be the official carrier of the best Russian sportsmen to the Olympic Games.

Sport and physical culture movements’ support is one of the Aeroflot priorities. A special attention is paid by the company to children’s and junior sport as well as to assisting handicapped sportsmen. The company supported junior tennis tournament “The Kremlin Cup Junior”, Moscow invalid football clubs “Spartak” and “Vozrozhdenie”, the Russian Mountain Skiing Federation for invalids as well as expeditions of the “Adventure” club.

In October 2004 Aeroflot actively contributed to XV International Tennis Tournament “Kremlin Cup -2004” held in Moscow’s sport complex “Olympysky”

Since last year the airline supports Russian Football Union by carrying the Russian team and junior team as well as by holding domestic and international competitions.

Field-and-track tournament “Russia’s challenge – 2004” with Aeroflot assistance revived the tradition of matches between Russia’s and the USA’s teams, also known as “Matches of the Giants”.

OJSC “Aeroflot-Russian Airlines” (RTS: AFTL is the largest Russian airline with 51% of the shares belonging to the state. It was established in 1923. It controls about 11 per cent of domestic and 39 per cent of international Russia’s air carriages’ market. Aeroflot’s net income for 2004 amounted to RUR6330m. It is included in the list of the 25 leading world airlines based on the financial performance (according to ATW). In 2004 Aeroflot carried 6.862m passengers. The aircraft fleet consists of 90 airplanes. The company is based in Moscow, Sheremetyevo airport. The company projects to finish construction of its own terminal “Sheremetyevo-3 by the end of 2007.
