Aeroflot Opens Self-Service Check-Ins At Sheremetyevo

“Aeroflot – Russian Airlines” begins to operate Self-service Check-in Counters at “Sheremetyevo” airport. The first six check-ins start to operate in terminals 1 and 2 from today.

On the initial step the Check-ins can be used only by Aeroflot passengers with the luggage which is allowed to bring aboard.

Within the following year the Self-service Check-in will be available to all passengers traveling by flights of the Aeroflot’s partners, including the SkyTeam alliance. The Self-service Check-in for passengers with luggage will be available to the general public in the new terminal of “Sheremetyevo-3”. Introduction of the new technology will let the passengers to save their time and to simplify the check-in procedure. Obeying the instructions on the clear interface of the Self-service Check-in Counters a passenger can easily perform the check-in procedure without assistance. Upon the identification by the reservation code the system will offer the passenger to choose a seat on the plane corresponding to his/her class of service, will print a boarding card, and will issue an invitation to the business cabin to business-class passengers and holders of the privileged “Aeroflot Bonus” cards. This service will be simplified after the introduction of electronic ticketing.

Aeroflot is planning to widen the usage of the Self-service Check-ins at the airport and to install additional check-in counters. At the beginning of 2007 Aeroflot is also planning to start the operation of mobile automated check-in counters connected to Sabre system, which will contribute to realization of the through check-in. The automation of airport procedures will increase the quality of the passengers’ service.

The analysts of the industry forecast that in five years the number of passengers using the Self-service Check-In Counters will achieve 80% of the general number of the checked-in passengers on the condition that check-in formalities are simplified and chip passports as well as other electronic documents are widely introduced.
