AEROFLOT PUTS INTO OPERATION V. GOLOVNIN А319 AIRCRAFT

March 19 2009, Moscow. – Aeroflot – Russian Airlines JSC received the 28th A319 airplane by Airbus. By the end of 2009 the company expects 2 more crafts of the model delivered. At the moment, Aeroflot’s fleet includes 51 aircrafts from the A319/320/321 family. The plane was called after V. Golovnin, a Russian seaman and traveler, vice admiral, corresponding member of St. Petersburg Academy of Science, Officer of the Order of St. George IV degree for long service.

The aircraft was received under an operational lease contract signed in 2007. The leasing company is General Electric Capital Aviation Services (GECAS).

All the machines are supplied directly ex-factory. The cabins are delivered in two-class layout to accommodate 116 (A319), 140 (A320) and 170 (A321) passengers. Aeroflot operates A320 family aircrafts to a destinations network in Russia and Europe. The company is among the world’s leaders in terms of operational reliability and actual hours flown per aircraft.

The А319/320/321 family includes best machines for medium range flights, complying with safety, reliability and passenger comfort requirements.

AEROFLOT is headquartered in Moscow, in the Sheremetyevo International Airport. As Russia’s largest carrier, the company flies around 10 million passengers annually, together with its subsidiaries, around 12 million passengers.

Aeroflot operates its own flights to 96 destinations in 48 countries. It accounts for over 45% of Russia’s scheduled international traffic. The company strives to enhance its share of domestic traffic, which now is 12.5% (with its subsidiaries, 17%).

Aeroflot has one of Europe’s youngest air fleets that consists of 96 aircrafts, more than half are state-of-the-art airliners. The air fleet is regularly replenished. The company plans to receive the new generation Russian airplanes Sukhoi SuperJet-100.

Aeroflot complies with the highest international safety standards. Following the results of the International Air Transport Association’s Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), the company was the first Russian carrier to be included in the IOSA Registry. In 2007, Aeroflot confirmed the certificate in compliance with the new, a more strict regulation version. Since March 2008, the company’s Quality Management System has been certified as complying with ISO 9001:2000.
