AEROFLOT BUYS JET FUEL AT ST.PETERSBURG COMMODITY EXCHANGE

 

March 25 2009, Moscow. – Aeroflot Russian Airlines JSC has closed its first deal at the St. Petersburg International Commodity Exchange for jet fuel with delivery at the Sheremetyevo base airport. The Exchange started jet fuel trading within its Petroleum section in the late 2008.
Aeroflot welcomes the development of jet fuel exchange trading in Russia, as it enables pricing transparency and generates transaction prices which objectively reflect the intersection of buyer and seller’s interests. Aeroflot sees exchange trade as an effective and necessary mechanism of managing price risks on the air transport market with usage of the modern financial tools.

St.Petersburg International Commodity Exchange CJSC obtained the license of the Federal Financial Markets Service on May 28 2008. Among its founders are Russia’s major companies and banks: Transneft, Transnefteprodukt, Rosneft, Gasprom Neft, Zarubezhneft, Surgutneftegas, Sovkomflot, Russian Railways, Vneshtorgbank, Sberbank, and Gasprombank.

AEROFLOT is headquartered in Moscow, in the Sheremetyevo International Airport. As Russia’s largest carrier, the company flies around 10 million passengers annually, together with its subsidiaries, around 12 million passengers.

Aeroflot operates its own flights to 96 destinations in 48 countries. It accounts for over 45% of Russia’s scheduled international traffic. The company strives to enhance its share of domestic traffic, which now is 12.5% (with its subsidiaries, 17%t).

Aeroflot is a member of SkyTeam, a global airline alliance. Aeroflot has given its customers an access to a route network covering 905 in 169 countries (more info is available on our website www.skyteam.com). Aeroflot operates code-sharing agreements with 33 foreign and Russian airline companies.

Aeroflot has one of Europe’s youngest air fleets that consists of 96 aircrafts, more than half are state-of-the-art airliners. The air fleet is regularly replenished. The company plans to receive the new generation Russian airplanes Sukhoi SuperJet-100.

Aeroflot complies with the highest international safety standards. Following the results of the International Air Transport Association’s Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), the company was the first Russian carrier to be included in the IOSA Registry. In 2007, Aeroflot confirmed the certificate in compliance with the new, a more strict regulation version. Since March 2008, the company’s Quality Management System has been certified as complying with ISO 9001:2000.
