Aeroflot Air Fleet Receives New A330

AEROFLOT STARTS OPERATING NEW А330 B. PASTERNAK

December 11, 2009, Moscow. – JSC Aeroflot Russian Airlines has received the eighth А330 airliner by Airbus. The aircraft is called after Boris Pasternak, a Russian poet, novelist and winner of the Nobel Prize for literature.

This is the eighth aircraft of this type received under an operational lease contract. The leasing company is AerCap. By April 2010, Aeroflot awaits receiving of two more А330-300 airplanes. 

А330-300s have a flying range of up to 10,500 km, can accommodate 302 passengers and are used by the world’s leading carriers in the long-haul segment. The aircraft are equipped with Rolls-Royce Trent 772В engines.

The new airliners are delivered to Aeroflot on a two-class layout: 34 business-class and 207 economy-class seats. The aircrafts have the cutting-edge Panasonic eX 2 IFE system with wide-screen video-monitors sized 9-16’’ inbuilt in each armchair, allowing the use of a multi-channel video-audio program. The business class compartment has comfortable foldable ‘cocoon’ armchairs. The economy-class compartment has increased seat pitch for more comfortable accommodation of passengers.

Aeroflot plans operation of А330s on both international and domestic lines. Currently, А330s fly to Beijing, Habana, Vladivostok, Tokyo, Shanghai and Bangkok.

AEROFLOT is based in Moscow, at the Sheremetyevo International Airport. Russia’s largest carrier, the company flew 9.3 million passengers in 2008, together with its subsidiaries, 11.6 million. Aeroflot operates its own flights to 97 destinations in 46 countries. It accounts for over 42% of Russia’s scheduled international traffic. The company strives to enhance its share of domestic traffic, which now is 13.7% (with its subsidiaries, around 20%).

Aeroflot is a member of SkyTeam, a global airline alliance. Aeroflot provides its customers with an access to a route network of 856 destinations in 169 countries (more info is available on www.skyteam.com). Aeroflot operates code-sharing agreements with 29 carriers in and outside Russia.

Aeroflot operates one of Europe’s youngest air fleets that consists of 113 aircrafts; about two thirds are state-of-the-art airliners. The air fleet is regularly replenished. The company plans to receive the new generation Russian airplanes Sukhoi SuperJet-100.
Aeroflot complies with the highest international safety standards. Following the results of the International Air Transport Association’s Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), the company was the first Russian carrier to be included in the IOSA Registry. In 2009, Aeroflot has confirmed the certificate for the third time, and successfully passed the ISAGO (IATA Safety Audit for Ground Operations) procedure. In March 2008, the company’s Quality Management System was certified as complying with ISO 9001:2000.
