Aeroflot to Present Unique Mobile K9 Unit at International Exhibition ‘Integrated Safety & Security 2010’

May 17 2010, Moscow. – On May 18 2010, the Aviation Security Department of JSC Aeroflot Russian Airlines will present a unique Mobile Canine Unit at the specialized exhibition ‘Transport Safety’. The event will take place within the framework of the international exhibition ‘Integrated Safety & Security 2010’ in the period of May 18-21 2010 in Moscow All-Russian Exhibition Center.

The Mobile Canine Unit includes Remote Air Monitoring System (RAMS) for flight security, which has no counterparts in Russia.

The unit consists of the following elements:

- A mobile module with ergonomic, sanitary and hygienic characteristics adapted for the canine physiology and psychology, which is able to carry and maintain 6-8 animals;

- A device to accumulate gas components of explosives, to be subsequently analyzed by bio-detectors (service dogs);

- Specially trained scent detecting dogs.

The bio-detector dogs are used in pre-flight inspection of passengers, checked-in baggage and cargos for substances prohibited on board, inspections (scheduled or caused by unlawful intervention threats) of the airline’s territory, facilities and aircraft, and in remote analysis of ambient air samples from the airline’s sites for explosive vapors.

Service dogs used by the aviation security department are cross-bred from husky and jackal, and have a unique olfactory system whose sensitivity surpasses that of other service dog breeds, or gas monitor devices.

The RAMS method is certified by the Russian Center for Certification of Aviation Security Objects. The key elements of the complex are patent-covered inventions.
