1989
Aeroflot joined the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
1984
The Moscow - Shannon - Gander - Havana route was initiated.
For the first time an Il-86 plane crossed the equator on the Moscow - Tripoli - Lagos route.
1981
On July 3 Aeroflot commenced regular flights on wide-body Il-86 aircraft from Moscow to Berlin, Brussels, Hamburg, Zurich, Prague, Vienna, Frankfurt am Main, Budapest, Paris, Delhi, Luxemburg, Düsseldorf, Munich, Beirut, Oman, Madrid, Belgrade, Milan, Sofia, Bucharest, Damascus, New York, Buenos Aires, and other cities of the world.
1980
Aeroflot was designated as the official carrier of Russian participants in the ХХII Olympic Games.
On May 6 the official opening was held of the new international airport complex—Sheremetyevo-2.
