Pets in cargo hold

If the weight of your animal including the cage exceeds 8 kg/18lbs, it can only be carried in the air-conditioned area of the cargo hold.

For transporting animals, you will need a special container or cage of an appropriate size with sufficient air supply. The base must be water-resistant and covered with absorbent material. In exceptional cases, you may be permitted to transport animals in a securely closed basket or similar. The cage has to be sized so that the animal is able to stand upright and turn around 360 degrees. Bird cages should be covered with thick light-tight fabric.

Required docuements to travel with pets

Please ensure you know the animal importation rules and quarantine laws of your destination country. To transport animals abroad, you must have a veterinary certificate issued by a state veterinary station plus importation permission.

If you are planning to take animals with you on your trip, make sure you have all the documents concerning their health:

  • A veterinary passport
  • A medical certificate. This certificate is given out at any state veterinary clinic (form #4 for Moscow residents, form #1 for near-Moscow residents). The certificate contains information on inoculations administered to the animal at certain ages. The last anti-rabies inoculation must have been administered no earlier than one year prior and no later than two months before departure.
  • A certificate from Moscow breeding clubs (SKOR, RKF) stating that the animal presents no breeding value. Certificates obtained from any other clubs may result in delays at customs.
